In their words

What students say.

A quiet dojo in Bloomingdale changes lives. These are the words of students past and present.

Hi, I’m David Barcroft, an assistant instructor at Hall’s Martial Arts Academy. I started my journey here in 2019, right after going through some serious health challenges. Honestly, I was a bit nervous about getting started, but Mr. Phil Hall and the entire community here made me feel welcome from day one.

With their support, I pushed myself to set and reach goals I never thought possible. I earned my black belt in 2022 and my second-degree black belt in 2023. The encouragement I received along the way was incredible, and it is a big part of why I love being part of this academy. Now, as an assistant instructor, I get to give back by helping others on their journeys, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Why people stay

Three things students keep telling us.

It feels like family.

Phil knows your name on day one. By month three, the rest of the dojo does too.

The standards are real.

We test on UFAF criteria. The black belt you earn here counts everywhere in the federation.

You leave better.

Stronger, calmer, more confident. That part is not a slogan, it is what students say back to us years later.

Are you a current or former student?

We would love to share your story.

Send us a few sentences about your time on the mat and we will add your words here, with your permission.
